This year the Torah Tours program, which sends YU students for the holiday to communities across North America takes place after college is over. One would think that none of the students would be attracted to such a program during summer break. Yet 150 students are traveling to 30 communities to add to the spirit of the chag by learning, singing and engaging with the communities. Communities include: Omaha, Montreal, Glendale Wisconnsin, Las Vegas, and Charleston.
This enables our students, especially those who grew up in New York and New Jersey to realize that there are wonderful communities past the NJ turnpike and there are opportunites to live very meaningful Jewish lives in those communities. See my comments in Gary Rosenblatt’s piece “if I forgot thee beyond the turnpike”
